Bishopstone yarns vlogmas 2

I have put together a little video of the second day of Decemember in the countdown to christmas.

I got to leave the house today and enjoy the lovely weather. I hope you can join me for a few moments out of my day.

Thankyou for watching.

Bishopstone yarns vlogmas 1

I have a little video showing the first day of December and my start of my Christmas countdown.
I have always loved the lead up to Christmas and we have always had a candle to count dowwn the days to Christmas day.
I came across the idea while living in Denmark and then tried to continue this when I started my own family. I found it harder to source the candles from here in the early days. At one point a Danish shop shop opened in the city and I was able to buy some candles from there, but the shop did not last long and I was back to looking for candles again. Then when I was on a trip to Sydney I found some candles in a two dollar shop, of all places. I grabbed a large number of them. The white candle in my video is one of these. But I only have two left so I am now on the look out for more candles. Luckily these days we can buy things online, you can tell how long it has been since I have had to buy any candles.

I hope you enjoy my little video and thankyou for watching.

Bishopstone yarns podcast, episode 33, #knitting podcast

Episode 33 of the Bishopstone yarns podcast is now up on youtube for you to see.

I was a few day late getting this one out as I have been sick with covid. This made it very hard for me to talk for any length of time without coughing, but I did manage to get a video made and put up on youtube. It may be a bit shorter than usual and without an intro as well but it is a video none the less.

I must admit that I struggle a bit with getting the type of footage I would like to include in my podcasts ( I guess that is the correct name for these videos). I seem to have a lot of trouble downloading from any of my devices to my laptop, therefore I have been filming everything on my laptop. When I had a different laptop and phone I could easily and most importantly , quickly download from one to the other. Now it seems to be a huge ordeal and so it puts me off trying again. I do think I should try and work out what I am doing wrong.

I hope you enjoy my video and please leave a comment as I always love to hear what everyone else is doing and making.

Thankyou for watching

Sit and spin 32, #spinningpodcast

Bishopstone yarns, sit and spin episode 32 is now up on youtube for you to watch. I have finished my Birkin from my handspun and try to decide which colour to spin up next to ply with my black merino silk. I am having trouble deciding which colour would be best to use with such a dark single.

Sometimes it can be the small decisions that hold up a project for the longest time. Even though I am keen to start spinning on my next lot of singles I am finding it hard to make a decision about the best colour to add to my singles. I dont want to end up with a barber pole effect for this spinning project so making the right choice is important.
Maybe you have some suggestions for me. I am feeling like I need to start a new spinning project while I decide what to do.

Happy Halloween

It is nearly Halloween and I have been having fun decorating the house. The fun of moving to a new place is trying to find how to display things that always had a home in a different space.   This years display is smaller than our old house but I still enjoy decorating, and in some cases finding ways to stop the new cat from playing with the decorations.

I hope those who enjoy Halloween have fun decorating, I know I love to see the interesting and thoughtful decorations some people have at this time of year . Halloween,  autumn or harvest time I hope you have a safe time.

FFO cross stitch #knittingpodcast

I thought it was time to have some FFO cross stitch projects. That is fully finished objects. I had a few pieces of cross stitch where I had finished the stitching and then put them away to finish later.

Until I started watching flosstube I was never really sure about how to finish off my cross stitch pieces. I had a few pieced that I had framed myself and one I had got professionally framed, but I didnt want to hang everything on the wall. I am so happy for finding some very inspirational stitchers on flosstube. So I just jumped in and made some very simple pillows. How simple was that, and now I can display my work instead of it being packed away.

A trip to Richmond

I recently went to the historic village of Richmond in Tasmania to meet up with my dad for lunch. After going to the christmas shop (have a look at my previous post to see some photos), we had a wander around the old town.

Richmond was originally a town built to house convicts, many were forced to work for local farmers or to create new roads, bridges and buildings in the area.

This is St Lukes anglican church. Construction started in 1834 and was built with convict labour.

Part of the view from the nearby river.

I really liked this old house and garden.

This is the old Dispensery, now accommodation  (I think).

Christmas shop

I recently went to the historic village of Richmond in Tasmania to meet up with my Dad for lunch. While I was there I visited the christmas shop, Lafayette on bridge,

The shop is displayed over three floors in an old building on the main road. Narrow stairs , old wooden floors and history everywhere you look. Then there is the Christmas displays to take your breath away.

I went to the shop to buy a scandinavian styled St Nicholas table ornmament to add to my display. This is what I found inside.

I really loved these Grinch ornaments but I wasn't sure that they would fit in with my scandinavian style. The more I think about it, maybe I could make it work as I love the original movie.

This is only a fraction of what they have to offer. I ended up buying a mouse on a spool, called spools of fun it was a Tails with heart by Paul Lundberg. They also had a large range of Jim Shore santa ornaments which I also really liked. I may have to go back and see if I can find the santa ornament I was looking for.

Hand dyed yarn

We were lucky enough to have a few nice warm days recently so I decided to do some dyeing.  After spinning up a jumper worth of wool during July for the tour de fleece I wanted to dye up some skeins so I can get ready to start knitting Birkin sweater by Caitlin Hunter.

I had carded a brown wool fleece with a white alpaca fleece to create a brown base colour but I really didn't want another brown jumper so I decided to over dye the main body skeins with apollo bay landscape dye (blue).
I then used some other landscape colours to dye other skeins to be used in the yoke pattern.

Episode 27

Episode 27 of the Bishopstoneyarns podcast is now up on youtube.

I talk about my latest dyeing.  Some sock knitting and my danish shawl.

There is also some quilting and cross stitch progress as well.

Bishopstone yarns, episode 19

Episode 19 of Bishopstone yarns podcast is now up on youtube.

What have I been up to in the past week.

The weather here has been cold and we have had some fantastic fog covering the area. I guess winter is here and letting us know. This makes it perfect knitting weather but not so good for me to sew as my sewing area doesnt have any heating. BRRRRRRRRRRR. Not at all inviting for sewing my quilt blocks.
I hope everyone is keeping warm, not too warm for those in the northern hemisphere. Keep crafting and enjoying what you make.

Farmers wife sampler quilt #6

Here are the next set of blocks I have done from The Farmer's wife sampler quilt. I have not trimmed these blocks yet as I will do that at the end. If you would like to see these blocks in action you can see them on my podcast on you tube, Bishopstone yarns. I am sorry but some of these blocks need another iron as they have been sitting in piles in a bag since finishing and filming for the podcast. I am very happy to have made spool as I was thinking of making a small quilt of these blocks as a cover for my sewing machine. I have seen these on others podcasters machines and love the look of them.

Farmer's Daughter

Honey's Choice

I am not happy with this block as I found that the points have not met up in the middle of the shapes. I am left wondering if I need to redo this block. I really like the colours used in this but I don't have much of this material left so I would have to make another block in different colours. What I might do is wait until I finished all the blocks and then make a decision about this block, and any others that may be in the same redo or not pile.

Old Windmill

Spool

Farmers wife sampler quilt #5

Here are the next 5 blocks I have made from the Farmer's wife sampler quilt. These have not been trimmed and some may need another iron since I finished and filmed them. If you would like to see these blocks in action you can see them on my podcast Bishopstone yarns on you tube. The blocks in these posts may not appear in order with the podcast episodes but I will try.

I am not a sewer or a quilter as such and am finding this experience really enjoyable. I have made blocks I never would have tried if I was just to choose myself so it has pushed me into learning new techniques , some I am sure I will use again and some I hope not to. I never knew that I would sew so many tiny triangles as the idea of all those points needing to meet up has always scared me.

Here are the next set of blocks that I have made for my Farmer's wife sampler quilt. These have not been trimmed and some may need a re iron since finishing and filming for my podcast. If you would like to see these blocks in action you can watch the my podcast Bishopstone yarns on you tube.

I had a problem with my iron at the very end of this block. As I did my final iron I was left with these black marks on my fabric. So I may have had something stuck on the iron or the tan material is not cotton, as it curled a bit when I ironed it. Still deciding if it will wash out or if I need to make another block.

Calico Puzzle

episode 17

Episode 17 of Bishopstone yarns is now up on youtube.

I have some finished socks, a new sock start.

See where I am up to in my cross stitch and my Farmers wife sampler quilt.

I may have bought some new material for a sewing project as well.

Farmers wife sampler quilt #3

Here are the next set of blocks that I have made from the Farmer's wife sampler Quilt. The first block is made using material from one of the quilting group ladies. I am hopeful that it will tone in well with my other fabrics.  These blocks have not been cut down to size yet as I will do that at the end of making
If you want to see these blocks in action you can see them on my podcast Bishopstone yarns on you tube.
